Getting ready for ski season. . . "Powder to the people" | | |
| Peoples of The World:
So, it's Saturday night and all our plans for partying fell apart.. so I'm sitting here in my dorm room and i'm gonna update my xanga.
For those of you who were like "Yu-Jia! You're staying in such a nice place!.." etc etc.. Well, I was only staying at that hotel for the first WEEK!
This is my permanent residence - The Dorms at Ryerson University. This is my room and bed.

Funny story about this.. When we were in Vancouver and trying to decide where to stay, the girl in our group (Shirley Chan) REALLY wanted to stay at Woodsworth College, which is this new posh residence at U of T. However, we couldn't move in until May 17, and we arrive in Toronto on April 28th, which meant that we would have to find someplace to stay for almost 3 weeks (sucks ass). So we decided to go with Pitman Hall at Ryerson University, which is not as nice, but we could take it.
So I move in on Saturday morning and I'm the first one there. The lobby downstairs is pretty nice.. The people who check me in are alright, but kinda disorganized. They thought I was Peter McGregor or something.. and thought that I was only staying for 4 weeks. We finally got things straightened out and I paid $1000 on my debit card. The total was actually $2280 or something like that, but I have a thousand dollar a day limit on my card, so I told them that I would pay the rest the next day. The next day, I forgot.. and I haven't paid them since! I'm hoping they'll forget.. I'll keep you updated on what happens hehe
The girl at the front desk takes me up to the third floor and shows me my room. I walk inside, and the first thing I notice is the walls. They are made of concrete and have no paint on them. Plus there's lots of yellow stains in the living room. The room is decent sized, but totally drab and uninteresting. Furniture is really old.. there are white and yellow stains on the couches outside. The table has spots where it's been burned and melted, there's also stains on the carpets. The kitchen is about the size of my closet at home lol. Fridge is tiny too.. probably 16 cu feet.
I take all this in, and i'm like "This is alright.. It's not like the place I stayed at last week, but hey, beggars can't be choosers."

So I unpack my shit and I go out to the grocery store to buy a salad (haha) for lunch. When I get back, Shirley is checking in with her six huge bags and man-servant to help her carry it all. She's all chirpy and happy and starts talking about what we're gonna do for dinner. I tell her to chill out until she's seen the room. She goes upstairs, opens the door.. and her jaw just drops hahahahah. I can tell she's fuckin' pissed off, but she keeps up an act and pretends to be nice to the girl who works there. After she leaves, Shirley starts crying and screaming and saying that she's gonna move out. She calls her mom in Vancouver and starts talking in cantonese, so I don't understand. About 15-20 minutes later, she comes out of her room and tells me that she's moving out. And she drags me out to walk around on the streets to look for an apartment for her to stay in. We went to all these balling places.. and she took phone numbers for all of them, but the funny thing was that some of these places weren't even BUILT yet. HAHA
When the other guys moved in, they all thought it was livable.. and we all decided to stay. Shirley moved out and decided to go to Woodsworth College, but she still needed to stay for a week because you can't move into Woodsworth until the 17th, so we told her that she could stay in our place until then.
That night (the first night we moved in), we all went crazy cause the place was so nasty. Eric Lee came down with kleptomania and decided to go to all the floors and steal shit since we were the only ones who moved in that day. From about 11:00PM to 3:00AM, we just raided all the floors (there are 14 altogether) and went into people's rooms and fridges and took canned food, food in boxes, leftover food, half-eaten food, frozen food, clothes hangers, dish-washing detergent, laundry detergent, some toys, some books, a fake tree for decoration, some artwork, and all sorts of junk. It was the most fun I've had in a long time.. we would sneak around with big bags of junk and just dig through garbage and look for shit.
The BEST things we stole were.. TWO mattresses!! Our mattresses at Ryerson suck ass.. super hard, and you can feel the springs digging into your back. Eric found this room on the 2nd floor where they keep ALL the mattresses that aren't being used.. and they have a bunch of new ones still in the plastic. We snuck down there quietly through the fire stairs and took the two new ones and replaced them with the old ones.. We had to be careful cause there's an opening where you can look up from the first floor where the security people are.
Unfortunately, there were only 2 so Chris and I didn't get any.. So what happened was that I took a nice one from the 7th floor and we gave a hard one to chris, so he had 2 hard ones. Chris has this thing where he's really "sensitive" when sleeping.. he complained that he didn't get any sleep the first night cause the mattress was so hard. We call him Princess Chris (Princess and the Pea).
Here are some pictures:
 Clothes hangers we stole
 Laundry detergent and other junk
 FREE FOOD!!
This is the tree we found. We were pre-drinking to go out (this is a few weeks later).. and also making some home videos. Ask me on msn if you wanna see haha.. The bra on the tree belongs to a certain friend of ours who left it behind when she moved out lols
This is the best picture. We found a big-ass nintendo sign, a Nerf sword, a tea kettle, a straw hat, a chinese lantern, and some artwork.
Here's a pic of our kitchen

We decided to make spaghetti the first night.. and I was in charge of making the actual noodles. I boiled 1.5 packs.. but I wasn't really thinking cause 1.5 packs is a LOT of spaghetti for 3 people. PLUS, I didn't stir the fucking pot enough, so it stuck to the bottom and burnt.
So we had burnt spaghetti for dinner.. and since there was so much leftover, I ate the same thing for about 4 days haha... The spaghetti had a hickery taste to it.. Kinda good actually!

Our next mission was to buy some playing cards.. but we noticed that there were a lot of porno stores on Yonge street so we decided to buy nudie ones (makes card games more interesting). We spent a good 2 hours going to different porn stores and looking for suitable cards, but couldn't find any. Each time we went into one, we would get distracted and check out other things (achem), until one of us finally said "Come on guys! Focus! Cards!" It ended up taking most of a morning and we finally ended up with these cards:

Our kitchen table after a night of poker, beer, and cards.

The next few weekends, we went around and did tourist-y type things. We each bought a CityPass, which is a $55 pass that gets you into 6 attractions (the Toronto zoo, the art gallery, the Royal Ontario Museum, the science centre, CN tower, Casa Loma). Here are some pics we took along our travels:

The CN tower. And that's me lying on the famous Glass Floor. Pretty scary shit actually.. just imagine the fall...
Here's a pic of my office building from the CN tower. Looks small!

Took some pictures with some statues in Greektown. We eat out every Saturday night and aim to try something different each week.. We've been to Little Italy, the Danforth (Greektown), Chinatown, Korean, etc..
 Hitchhiking the subway
 YOUR MOM IS AWESOME SALE!
And a few weeks ago, it was Shirley's birthday.. so we took her out to the Korean Grill again cause she loves the place so much and wouldn't go to anyplace else.

And then it was time for the cake and present!!
Hahah! We bought her a big dildo.. We went to the porno shops again and told them that we were looking for a dildo as a gag gift.. And the woman was like "Well, do you want a pure gag, or do you want something that she can use too, if she wanted to?" We thought about it for a second, and we said "Sure! Something she can use if she wants to!" hahaha So there it is, the Big Functional Dildo.

As we were leaving the restaurant, my friend knocked the dildo out of her hand, causing everyone in the restaurant to look as she bent down to pick it up hahahah
I'm kinda tired now, and it's Sunday. I'll get some more pics and stories up next time.. To thank you for reading all the way down here, I'll end up with a funny story.
The place we're staying at (Ryerson U), is located in the middle of GayTown. Church St. in toronto is where all the gay clubs are and gay people hang out all over here. We didn't really realize this, but one night we were walking down Church to go to some bar, and we saw a shitload of guys holding hands... and I might say that a few of them were even glancing at us (four guys walking together).
We realized our mistake quickly and crossed to a different street lol.. but the next day, we found this Molson ad and I took an artistic picture of it. Enjoy!
(After I took this picture, I didn't tell them that I was finished, so they held hands on the street in the middle of GayTown for a good minute hehe)
Till next time folks! | | |
| Hello Everyone!
So this is day 22 in Toronto and I'm finally settled down enough to get my internet connection up and working, and with the long weekend, I have enough time to update you all with what's been happening here.
Living with 3 guys has been fuckin' hilarious.. I'll share some of the stories here, but some can only be told in person, and some can't be told at all .
So like all good journals/blogs, it isn't worth shit without photos - so here they are.
So I arrived in Toronto on April 28th. I checked into my hotel after getting a ride from the airport with a friend. It was like 7:00ish by the time I got in, and I went out to find food. I was staying on King St and Yonge St, which is right in the middle of downtown, so I couldn't find any grocery stores. Ended up eating at the food court (Manchu Wok) in Eaton Centre, and then walking over to Sport Chek to buy a pair of runners.
That night, I realized I didn't have toothpaste, so I went out at 11:00ish PM and tried to find a 24 hr store to buy some, but ended up walking around for half an hour with no luck. (This is a pic that I took while walking to Loblaws - the equivalent of superstore. The TD tower is my office and the smaller white building to the left is my hotel.)
So here's my hotel. The One King West. They filmed the MuchMusic VJ Search in the penthouse here.
Here's my room. Pretty nice. High ceilings.
My desk in my hotel room. I wish I took a picture of the weight room too.. It's on the top floor, so there's a great view of the city, looks awesome while on the treadmill at night. There's also built-in TV tuners in the cardio machines, so you can bring headsets and watch like 100 channels. Dope!
So I report to work on Monday at Merrill Lynch. I meet my supervisor, the CEO, COO, and Vice-President. Get set up at my desk and computer... I'm sitting on the trading floor with the credit team. This stuff is pretty exciting.. we have several live ticker boards at the back of the room with streaming data and news.. TVs all over the place. This pic is my ID pass. I know you guys like my cute looks and red tie. =)
This is our first time eating out in Toronto. Eric Lee and I at a Korean Grill. We spent like an hour trying to find a place to eat that would be cheap, but fill us up. Living on your own is fucking expensive, since there's all those little costs that you never think about (e.g toilet paper, soap, napkins, cutlery, pots and pans). This place was all you can eat, $12.99. We made sure we got our money's worth.
 The grill caught on fire.
Alright we're gonna go out now to Little Italy and Chinatown for some cheap eats. I haven't really told any stories yet, but I'll start writing them out and update next week.
I also apologize for the lack of formatting in this post. I just can't be bothered. Haha.
Cheers for now folks! [Long comments would be appreciated and help reduce the feelings of loneliness and homesicklinessness (sp?)]
